Current status: terrified. I’m at the start line of my run into the unknown…. So here’s the plan: a running traverse of the Sierra Oriental, aka the Bolivian Andes. In my pack I’ll be carrying my bivvy/tarp, stove, lots of wool/down layers, up to 6 days of food, navigation gadgets and camera. Route planning has been pretty hazy, and guesses at distance at the moment are between 650-1100km with about a zillion metres of elevation. While some routes exist within the traverse, the whole range has (to my knowledge) never been linked up into one continuous line nor been run before, so I have no way of guaranteeing that it’s possible - I just *believe* it is. I’ll be passing through Quechua and Aymara communities that lack paved roads, but giving a wide berth to the mining regions that are not known to be a suitably safe place for a Gringa. I’ve heard more danger warnings than positivity, but isn’t that always the way?
The pack is heavy, the route is dubious, the air is thin, and the mountains are beautiful. The first day sees me at nearly 5000m elevation, which I expect to be both cold and dizzy. See you all on the other side… Wish me luck! 🏔🏃🏻♀️🇧🇴
