One of my favorite second wines of the right bank is Virginie de Valandraud. Named for Jean-Luc Thunevin’s daughter with its first vintage in 1992, this wine really excels as a second wine. Taken from parcels not used for Château Valandraud, it is vinified in the same way as the grand vin. With production around 15,000 bottles, this is relatively easy to find. And while the price is a bit higher in older vintages (the 2009 shown is a personal favorite of mine), the QPR is excellent for the 2015 and 2016 vintages (around $40). Look out for this one!
